Digital Sources

Finding digital sources is in some ways second nature for your generation and in other ways is still a skill that might need to be taught. For a class that is focused on digital projects, you need to think about what digital sources you want to use, how you should cite them, and which ones you can use publicly.

There are many sites like this one maintained by the American Library Association that compile credible collections of digital materials. This compilations can be very useful to explore; they typically aggregate links to many different library collections. But they can also be overwhelming. I find the DP.LA site intuitive and easy to use, even though I know it is incomplete.

The other way that you should search for digital sources, including photos and other primary materials, is by looking at the collections of local and state libraries.

In class today, I want you to explore the DP.LA collection and see what kinds of images and sources they have that relate to your city and/or the topic you are interested in for your city. Then find at least two other collections (not aggregated in DP.LA) that have additional sources. Write a short blog post about them.
