Immigrants are often imagined as the ultimate "other." In this module we will read about immigration politics and focus particularly on public discourse: how do we talk about immigration? What does that discourse reveal about how we understand the identity of and police the borders of "American." We will read articles that demonstrate how scholars use the idea of discourse when analyzing a range of issues around race and immigration. We will also work through several ways of finding collections of texts that you can analyze. Your paper will apply discourse or content analysis to a set of texts about immigration.
